Thank you for your interest in
becoming a volunteer with us. We are very grateful for
the unique contribution volunteers make to our service
and to our clients. We take on volunteers to cover the
three main roles - Advice worker, Receptionist and Administrator.
Advice Worker
This role asks for a big commitment from you - two days
per week for a minimum period of 18 months - 2 years.
The first year is mostly spent in training in skills.
The second year is spent practising and improving your
interviewing skills. If you already have a CAB Adviser's
Certificate, related training and experience or have
legal qualifications you may be able to reduce and speed
up the training through Prior Learning Accreditation

Receptionist
This role is extremely important to us as the receptionist
presents the face of our service to all our clients
- we win or lose our good reputation with the first
contact. Our receptionists can expect to work at least
one day per week, meeting callers, arranging appointments,
signposting, explaining our services and generally helping
the bureau run smoothly. At quiet times you will be
asked to help with general administration tasks.
Administrator
Without volunteer administrators our services would
not be able to function - there is always far too much
to be done than can be managed by our small team of
paid workers. Administrators assist with file management,
word processing, ordering and arranging leaflets, statistical
recording and many other tasks. We look for at least
one days commitment per week.

Trustee Board
We always need more people to join our Trustee Board
which makes sure the bureaux meet the needs of local
people and are run efficiently. Board members ensure
CAB policies and standards are met by helping with the
development, funding and management of the bureaux.
As with most committees, there is a Chair, Vice Chair
and Treasurer. The Board meets four times a year with
sub committees (eg Personnel, Development etc) meeting
more often. We are looking for people of all ages and
from all communities with a commitment to high quality
advice provision and equality of opportunity. If you
would like to talk to somebody about this function please
write to a bureau or the Deptford office for further
details and perhaps arrange a visit.
